Quick Start Guide

This guide introduces you to IBM Maximo Asset Management, describes the available features and deployment options, provides a list of prerequisite software, and gives you a roadmap to other important information. Product overview Maximo® Asset Management is a software tool that helps you maximize the assets of your company. Maximo Asset Management provides maintenance management, financial management, personnel management, rotation, deployment, history, inventory, contracts, and purchasing capabilities. Maximo Asset Management can also be used with other products that are based on the Maximo base services, such as IBM® Tivoli® Service Request Manager, IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database, and IBM Tivoli Asset Management for IT.

1 Step 1: Plan for the installation and review your deployment options Installation process.

The overall installation process is as follows:

  1. Verify your software package contents.
  2. Access and review the documentation.
  3. Install prerequisite hardware and software.
  4. Install and configure the middleware.
  5. Install and configure Maximo Asset Management.

Deployment options Maximo Asset Management requires multiple software servers that can be installed on separate, dedicated servers or on the same server. For best performance, install each of these components on separate servers.

  • Application server
  • Database server

2 Step 2: Verify your software package contents.

Access the product software from either the DVDs or from IBM Passport Advantage®. If you download your product from Passport Advantage, follow the directions in the download document at http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24018746

  • IBM Maximo Middleware, Windows Server x86-64 bit

3 Step 3: Access and review the documentation.

The Maximo Asset Management Quick Start DVD contains most of the information that you needed to plan for and install the product. For additional documentation, see the information links in More information.

4 Step 4: Install prerequisite hardware and software Maximo Asset Management runs on Windows®, UNIX®, AIX®, Solaris, Linux®, and Linux on IBM System z® operating
systems.

The following database servers are supported:

  • Oracle
  • IBM DB2®
  • Microsoft® SQL Server

Maximo Asset Management does not support all configuration combinations.

Review the supported configurations in the Supported configurations matrix listed in More information. Also review the hardware and software prerequisites in the installation guide for the operating system and database on which you are installing Maximo Asset Management. Verify that all the prerequisites are met before you install Maximo Asset Management.

5 Step 5: Install and configure the middleware.

The middleware installer provides automatic installation of many middleware components. Some configurations require that you manually install the middleware. See the Manually Installing Middleware document for the information about installing middleware products without using the middleware installer.

6 Step 6: Install and configure Maximo Asset Management.
